Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni is a plant that was originally grown by indigenous inhabitants in South America, who used it as a sweetener. The extract is obtained from the plant´s leaves. The sweet substances in the plant are steviol glycosides - steviosides and rebaudiosides, which are - in their pure form - 200 times to 300 times sweeter than sugar.
