After unhusking, pistachios look similar to pine nuts. Due to their distinctive taste, pistachios belong among the most popular nuts. They have a characteristic green colour and are often used as an ingredient for the preparation of desserts or ice creams. Various dishes are often coloured by pistachios as well.
Pistachio comes from a pistachio tree. This tree originally comes from Asia and the Middle East, nowadays it is widely cultivated mainly in the USA, Turkey and Iran. It is one of the oldest crops that prefers drier subtropical climate.
