Flakes are made from oat grain, which is first cleaned, then steamed and consequently exposed to dry heat. Such treated oat is pressed in cylinders and sometimes cut into small pieces. Oat is a very widespread cereal in the area of a mild climate and has been known since the Bronze Age. In addition to flakes, oat is also used for the production of flour or a plant-based drink as a milk alternative.
